Description
The Parlour Palm is ideal for terrariums due to its tolerance of low light and a wide variety of moisture levels. Under low light conditions the plant will grow very slowly and does not really get much taller than when planted, although with more light the fronds will get progressively taller and eventually need trimming.
Although this palm grows from the base it should not be cut back to ground level as this can kill it. Instead remove the dead outer fronds or remove very tall ones by cutting the stem. A large plant is ideal for chameleons as they can form thick clumps.
Although not bothered too much by humidity levels, like many palms, they are sensitive to overwatering and cannot tolerate being waterlogged. At between 20-27°C, good growth will occur. A lower temperature is fine as the plant will still survive providing it doesn’t dip much below 10°C, however growth will slow or stop.
